   Shelter is an innovative company specializing in small buildings of endearing quality. Our company history spans 28 years of residential construction in the areas of design, land development, custom homes, concrete construction, production framing, timber framing, log work and fine finish work.

Our company intent is to direct these years of residential construction experience into the creation of the finest panelized storage and living spaces available.

About our Products

So what is UnUsual about our products? It is UnUsual to find smaller cabins and outbuildings built to the same (or higher) structural and design standards as are found in the residential construction world. It is also UnUsual to find such structures built with many of today's custom design features such as lofts, window seats, dormers, curved walls, accent windows, timber and log details. Most character features found in today's custom homes, or in your imagination, can be found in Shelter buildings

Additionally, it is UnUsual to find smaller cabins and outbuildings available in panelized form. Floor, wall and roof framing is pre built, as much as the design will allow, into hand or crane managed lumber and plywood panels. The advantages of this approach are many:

When a Shelter building is delivered to your prepared site only a few days will be needed to create a weather tight shell.

This advantage helps time the construction work to avoid poor weather conditions and also can fit well with vacation plans that might include a week of "barn raising" on your vacation property.

Panelizing also means that only materials needed are delivered, which eliminates the need for management of scrap and surplus materials, a handy feature especially on small or remote sites.

If you consider yourself of adequate skill level, panelized structures also allow the option of do-it- yourself construction.

Since the process of panelizing our cabins and outbuildings happens in the shop a greater degree of quality control is available than is typically found on the job site. Dry building space, proper squaring and panel nailing (we use panel jigs), access to specialized machinery and direct connection between design and production personnel all lend to quality results.

The shop environment also allows us to prefabricate features which otherwise would be difficult and time consuming on site such as stairways, timber trusses, railings, cupolas, arched openings, etc. Prefabricated features install in a snap.
